Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and bananas are some of the best fruits for people with high blood pressure, states Healthline. Tomatoes and watermelon have also been proven to regulate blood pressure, reports Yagana Shah of The Huffington Post.
Berries are good for people with high blood pressure because they contain flavonoids, explains Healthline. Flavonoids are a group of compounds that relax the blood vessels, according to a study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. After tracking more than 150,000 people for a total of 14 years, the researchers found that study participants with the highest anthocyanin intake had a reduced risk of developing high blood pressure. Anthocyanin is one of the flavonoids found in berries.
Tomatoes help control blood pressure and reduce levels of bad cholesterol in the blood, reports Shah. Lycopene, the pigment that gives tomatoes their color, is responsible for these health benefits. Watermelon is beneficial for people with high blood pressure because it contains an amino acid called L-citrulline. This amino acid helps regulate blood pressure and blood flow. L-citrulline may even help prevent patients from developing stage 1 or stage 2 hypertension. Bananas help control blood pressure because they contain a lot of potassium, a mineral that helps regulate the effects of sodium on the human body.
