Patients with prostate cancer should avoid fatty cuts of red meat and dairy foods, according to WebMD. Foods that are fried or that contain margarine and other trans fatty acids should also be eliminated from a patient's diet.
Other foods that promote cancerous cell growth include flax seed oil, reports WebMD. Healthy omega-3 fatty acids should be obtained through fresh fish, such as salmon, sardines, trout and mackerel. Fish should be prepared by baking, broiling or poaching. Additionally, a patient should avoid foods that have been pickled, preserved or highly salted, as well as diets high in calcium.
Good sources of protein include lean cuts of meat, beans and legumes, according to Everyday Health. A plant-based diet that includes lots of vegetables, fruits, nuts and soy is recommended. Tomatoes have high levels of lycopene, which protects against many types of cancer, including prostate, stomach and lung cancer. Drinking green tea has many cancer-warding benefits as well.
Additional foods that support a healthy diet for cancer patients include cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower, according to WebMD. Red grapes, grape juice and red wine are supportive when taken regularly. Olive and avocado oils, which contain vitamin E and healthy antioxidants, should replace corn, soybean and canola oils, which are high in polyunsaturated fats.
