Cherries contain anthocyanins, which are compounds that act as antioxidants, explains Prevention. The antioxidants fight pain by blocking tissue swelling and by inhibiting pain enzymes. Ginger disintegrates intestinal gas, blocks a gut receptor that induces vomiting and prevents swelling, hence fighting migraines, arthritis and muscle pain. Coffee helps in the constriction of enlarged blood vessels that accompany headaches, helping in the alleviation of headache pain. However, coffee relieves headache only if used occasionally.
