Bland foods, such as bananas, rice, applesauce and toast, are good to eat when a person an upset stomach, says WebMD. Water, sports drinks and other clear liquids are also helpful.
Known as the BRAT diet, bananas, rice, applesauce and toast are bland foods that people with nausea tolerate well, according to Family Doctor. Other bland foods, such as saltine crackers, boiled potatoes and clear soups, are also part of the diet. Doctors recommend this diet following vomiting or diarrhea because the foods are low in fiber, making stools firmer. Because the BRAT diet is low in fiber and nutrients, a person should only follow it for 24 to 48 hours.
