Individuals with rosacea should avoid alcoholic beverages, spicy foods, and hot, caffeinated drinks, according to the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology. They should also stay away from foods that are hot in temperature, according to WebMD, as these foods are known to trigger rosacea.
Factors that make an individual’s face flush often worsen rosacea symptoms, states WebMD. Avoiding foods, drinks, emotions, activities and products that cause the face to be warm and turn red may reduce rosacea symptoms.
Many additional foods may trigger rosacea, including fruits, cheeses and marinated meats, according to the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology. A survey by the National Rosacea Society in 1999 determined how common and severe various food triggers can be for rosacea patients. Some of the top specific triggers found through the survey were red wine, cayenne and red pepper, citrus fruits, and tomatoes.
In addition to food and drink triggers, other rosacea triggers include weather, emotional stress, exercise and medication, explains WebMD. Weather that is hot, cold, windy, sunny or humid can worsen rosacea symptoms. Heightened, stressful or rapidly-changing emotions sometimes trigger rosacea, as can high-intensity workouts.
