The first signs of heart trouble often include pain, discomfort and pressure in the chest, according to WebMD. Some people may also experience pain in the back, jaw, neck, stomach or one or both arms at the onset of heart problems or a heart attack.

Additional signs of heart trouble may include discomfort in the abdomen that feels similar to heartburn, profuse sweating, nausea or lightheadedness, explains WebMD. Shortness of breath along with chest discomfort is also a sign of heart problems. Persistent wheezing or coughing can be a symptom of heart problems, especially when fluid accumulates in the lungs that results in bloody phlegm.
