The best photochromic lenses, which darken in the presence of sunlight, are ones that resist scratching, darken quickly and withstand impact. Each brand has advantages and disadvantages based on individual needs and preferences.
Photochromic lens brands come from companies like Corning, Signet Armorlite, Rodenstock, Carl Zeiss Vision and Vision-Ease Lens. Popular brands of lenses, such as Transitions Signature, are not necessarily superior, according to Doctor Heiting of All About Vision, although they do come in an expansive range of designs and materials. Other brands have their own advantages; the PhotoGray and PhotoBrown brands of Corning, for example, feature heavier, more scratch-resistant and more impact-resistance lenses than competitors. Signet Armorlite offers its PhotoView brand, made of lighter polycarbonate material. PhotoFusion by Carl Zeiss Vision features quickly-transitioning lenses that are 20 percent faster at darkening than other brands.
