What, when and how a person eats has a major role in how he functions, explains WebMD. To discover which foods may be the culprit, take note of what you eat along with its effects on your energy. To combat fatigue after meals, eat a balanced diet. Always eat breakfast to give yourself increased energy throughout the day. Include complex carbohydrates, which are found in whole grains; healthy fats, which are found in nuts, olives and fish; fiber, which is found in beans and various whole grains, fruits and vegetables; and protein, which is found in eggs, yogurt and lean meats, in each meal.
Avoid eating many sugars or simple carbohydrates. These cause a spike and subsequent crash in blood sugar, resulting in strong fatigue. Even slight dehydration can cause fatigue. Drink enough water throughout the day to enable clear urination every two-to-four hours. The amount of food eaten at each meal is also a key factor in a person's fatigue after eating. Keep blood sugar levels stable during the day by having three fairly small meals and two snacks. Very large meals create more work for the digestive system, in turn draining energy.
