Exercise is not an effective way of eliminating marionette lines. Rather, the more effective treatments are Botox injections, a neck lift, laser treatments or using retinoid cream, as stated by WebMD.
Marionette lines, along with the other nasolabial folds on the face, are genetic and become more prominent as a person ages, says WebMD. Loss of collagen and elastin, smoking, sun exposure and fluctuating weight are all contributors to deep marionette lines. The best way to treat them, or prevent them, at home is to try and keep the skin's collagen and elastin strong. In order to do this, it is important to protect your skin from sun damage and to consume a lot of healthy foods rich in antioxidants; such as carrots, broccoli and berries.
Avoiding smoking and keeping a steady weight are also helpful in keeping facial lines from becoming more prominent, notes WebMD. It is also possible to use a topical treatment to eliminate marionette lines. Retinol or retinoid cream can make the skin appear younger by softening the lines on the face. If none of these methods work, it is possible to receive more invasive treatments. The effectiveness of these treatments relies on age. Juvederm or Restylane are a good option for those in their 30s and early 40s, while Botox is more effective for those in their mid-40s and 50s. For those in their 60s and older, a neck lift or laser treatment is a better option.
