Coffee-braised brisket and strawberry-banana smoothies are examples of recipes for a diabetic, low-carb diet, according to Diabetic Living. To make the brisket, begin by combining 2 tablespoons of packed brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of ground coffee, 1 tablespoon of paprika and 1 teaspoon each of garlic powder, pepper and salt.
Rub the mixture over a trimmed 3-pound beef brisket, and put the meat in a slow cooker, explains Diabetic Living. Top it with slices from two large onions. Mix 1/2 cup of strong brewed coffee and 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar, and pour it over the onions. Cook on low for nine to 10 hours or on high for 4 1/2 to five hours.
For the smoothie, place 4 cups sliced fresh strawberries, 1 medium sliced banana and one 6-ounce carton of low-fat vanilla yogurt in a blender, Diabetic Living instructs. Blend until smooth, adding 1 cup of ice cubes, one at a time. Garnish with sliced kiwi.
