As of 2015, SCAN Health Plans offers Medicare Advantage plans to Medicare-eligible residents of designated counties in California and Arizona. Many of the plans offered are health maintenance organizations, which means that participants must use plan doctors for all health care needs except in an emergency. Participants also typically require a referral from a primary care provider to see a specialist when under this type of plan.

SCAN Health Plans also provides Special Needs Plans, which are designed for individuals with specific diseases or characteristics. Typically, special needs plans are available to individuals who suffer from a chronic disease, such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, chronic lung disease or HIV. Additionally, some SNPs are open only to people who live in a nursing home or require in-home nursing care.
