An EEG test is an electroencephalogram test that is used to determine abnormalities that occur in brain activities. The test is not used to detect mental illness or to measure intelligence.
This test is helpful in treating conditions such as head injuries, dementia, epilepsy, sleep disorder, brain tumor, stroke, brain inflammation and brain dysfunction. It works by tracking and recording brain waves and then sending the signals to a computer to be analyzed. A person going for an EEG test needs to clean their hair, removing oils and conditioner so that electrodes can stick to the scalp. Some medications and caffeine may be need to be discontinued prior the test.
