As the experts at BabyCentre state, there is no scientific evidence that supports the use of pineapple to induce labor. However, anecdotal stories abound, claiming that eating pineapple does indeed help to bring on labor.
As the expert team at BabyCentre point out, pineapple could theoretically help to bring about labor. It contains the enzyme bromelain, which is thought to soften the cervix, in turn bringing on labor. However, a pregnant woman would have to eat as many as seven pineapples to achieve the necessary bromelain level thought to have any effect, risking stomach upset. They recommend that a pregnant woman interested in trying to bring on labor with pineapple eat the pineapple fresh, rather than canned .
