Dr. Phil's 17 Day Diet Challenge is a diet that uses 17-day cycles to encourage healthy eating and exercise. Dr. Phil mentioned this diet on his show in 2010 and challenged his viewers to follow the guidelines and achieve their weight-loss goals.
While Dr. Phil added to the popularity of this diet, its creator is Dr. Mike Moreno. Each 17-day phase of the diet requires different amounts of exercise and nutritional structure.
In the first phase, followers perform 17 minutes of cardiovascular exercise per day. In the next phase, they perform 17 minutes of cardio per day and restrict their calories. In the third phase, they must perform 30 to 40 minutes of cardio on most days of the week. In the fourth and final phase, followers are encouraged to create a workout schedule for the weekdays and perform an hour of cardio on the weekends. The diet focuses on replacing processed food with vegetables, unprocessed grains and lean meat.
