As of 2015, use an online resource, such as Visiting Physician's Association or the American Academy of Home Care Medicine, to locate a doctor who makes house calls. The American Academy of Home Care Medicine lists providers in all 50 states, and offers a tool that searches provider names and locales. Visiting Physician's Association does not provide information on home visit doctors in every state.
Doctors associated with Visiting Physician's Association offer physical exams and continuous treatment, medication prescriptions and refills, and portable lab services and diagnostic tools. Homebound and elderly patients receive visits from Visiting Physician's Association doctors who perform cardiology and pulmonology consultations, home care coordination, disease management, and transitional care. Visiting Physician's Association includes a link on the home page that visitors use to request more information or schedule an appointment with a doctor. Visiting Physician's Association accepts Medicare and other insurance payments.
The American Academy of Home Care Medicine provides contact information for doctors, physicians' assistants and nurse practitioners in each state. Members of the Academy include specialists in pediatrics, psychiatry, internal medicine, geriatrics and emergency medicine. In addition to serving as a doctor referral service, the American Academy of Home Care Medicine sponsors educational and scientific seminars, provides relevant publications, and works to increase reimbursement for health care professionals in order to encourage home medical care.
