Astaxanthin reduces oxidation in the body, which plays a role in preventing health issues such as cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease, says WebMD. Astaxanthin can help the heart in numerous ways by preventing plaque buildup in the arteries and by protecting the heart muscles from damage caused by lack of oxygen during a heart attack.
