Doctors prescribe one of two different types of medications to treat gastroparesis; one type stimulates the stomach muscles, and the other helps control vomiting and nausea. If diet and medications do not work, the only other option is surgery. The surgery involves placing a feeding tube directly into the small intestine through the mouth or abdomen, or putting a gastric venting tube directly into the digestive system.
