When Sami was given orders to lose weight, he realized he had to make major changes in his lifestyle. In Houston, he spent several months consulting with a nutritionist whose name has not been revealed publicly. With her help and guidance, he cut out bread, oil, rice, sugar, alcohol and unhealthy snacks. Instead of these, he ate a diet comprised mainly of salad, fish and lentils. Although he was losing an average of about 22 pounds a month, he could not tell the difference at first, which made relying on willpower even harder for a while.
Initially, he was not able to exercise since he was barely able walk unaided; however, after losing about 80 pounds, he began to work out with private trainer Pashant Sawant in Mumbai. His workouts initially focused on weightlifting and cardio exercise, and eventually he was able to start playing tennis and squash.
