A recipe for blueberry green tea smoothie from the American Diabetes Association includes blueberries, green tea, tofu, protein powder and cashew nuts. A pumpkin pie smoothie recipe is also available from the American Diabetes Association.
To make the blueberry green tea smoothie, immerse 1 green tea bag in 1/2 cup of freshly boiled water, and allow the tea to infuse the water for four minutes before discarding the bag, instructs the American Diabetes Association. Put 1 cup of frozen, unsweetened blueberries into the blender, along with 3/4 cup of silken tofu, 1 scoop of vanilla whey protein powder, 1 tablespoon of unsalted dry-roasted cashew nuts and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon. Pour in the green tea, and blend the mixture for 30 seconds before tossing in 1 cup of ice cubes and blending the beverage again until it achieves a smooth consistency.
To make the pumpkin pie smoothie, place 1/2 cup of pumpkin puree, 1/3 cup of nonfat plain yogurt, 1 scoop of no-carb vanilla-flavored protein powder, 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed and 1/4 teaspoon of pumpkin-pie spice in a blender, directs the American Diabetes Association. Pour in 1/2 cup of vanilla almond milk and 1/4 cup of ice. Blend the ingredients thoroughly, and serve the smoothie in a glass with 2 tablespoons of fat-free whipped topping and 1/4 teaspoon of ground flaxseed. It is important to use pure pumpkin puree rather than canned pumpkin pie filling for this recipe, as the canned product is much higher in calories and carbohydrates.
