Lavender oil can either be inhaled or applied to the skin to cure migraines, notes Everyday Health. For inhaling, boil two to four drops of the oil with two or three cups of water. Lavender oil does not have to be diluted when applied directly on the skin. Peppermint oil is recommended for migraines and tension headaches because it has vasodilating and vasoconstricting properties that help promote healthy blood flow. Basil oil relaxes muscles, which is ideal for migraines caused by tight muscles and tension.
Everyday Health states that certain foods can increase the likelihood and severity of a headache. Trigger foods include bananas, avocados, onions, meats that contain nitrates, foods with MSG, peanut butter and chocolate. These foods should be avoided if they caused headaches or migraines in the past. Simply massaging the area in the back of the head known as the greater occipital nerve can also treat migraine pain. Reflexology, which is massaging the reflex points at the feet and hands, is also recommended for treating headaches.Learn more about Conditions & Diseases
