Golfer's elbow is an injury that occurs through overuse. As with any similar injury, the key to a successful cure is to apply treatment as soon as possible and continue care until all symptoms disappear. Golfer's elbow is similar to tennis elbow, except it occurs on the inside of the elbow instead of the outside. If a person experiences pain or stiffness in this area, cease activities immediately and rest the elbow until the pain is completely gone. Apply ice packs wrapped in a thin towel to prevent skin burns up to four times a day for up to 20 minutes at a time, recommends Mayo Clinic. Massage the inside of the elbow for five minutes at a time, at a maximum of three times per day.
While these are the most effective cures for golfer's elbow, it is always a good idea to consult a doctor, particularly if the pain does not begin to lessen within the first few days. Chronic or acute cases may require further intervention or surgery. A doctor may also recommend exercises that specifically stretch and strengthen the area and can provide a cortisone injection for pain relief if store-bought pain medication is not effective, according to Mayo Clinic.
