CrossFit is a fitness program designed to provide a full-body workout. The program combines different elements of gymnastics, cardio, weight lifting and core training to offer a complete workout regimen. CrossFit is considered a competitive fitness sport as well as a physical exercise program.
CrossFit was developed using elements from calisthenics, high-intensity interval training, olympic weightlifting, gymnastics, plyometrics and powerlifting. The program also uses elements of strongman and various other exercises. Although the high-intensity workout is exceptionally varied, the routines are generally performed twice a week for an hour. CrossFit aims to optimize physical competency in the ten universal fitness domains. These domains include stamina, cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, strength, coordination, power, accuracy, flexibility, balance, agility and speed. CrossFit is used by athletes, police officers, military personnel and fire fighters.
