To connect your Fitbit to a computer, install Fitbit Connect, a free software application that synchronizes the device to a desktop dashboard. Once the software is installed, plug your Fitbit wireless USB dongle into the computer with the Fitbit nearby, and the device connects with the computer.
After you have installed your Fitbit software and synchronized the device with your computer, you are free to begin viewing your workout data, track your diet and more. Fitbit Connect guides new users through setting up their accounts, charging their trackers and putting on their trackers for the first time. The software program also provides directions for adding a second Fitbit tracker to the same account.
Fitbit Connect identifies individual devices through four-digit numbers. These numbers appear on the dashboard screen when you connect your device. The exception is the Fitbit Flex, which does not involve numbers for identification. The lights on this device begin to blink once the computer has identified it, prompting you to tap the Flex window twice until it vibrates. In some cases, depending on how you set up your account, you must enter a password each time you connect your Fitbit to your computer before you are able to access your data.
