The most common use for laser acupuncture is in the treatment of arthritis pain, according to the Daily Express. Techniques used in laser acupuncture are also beginning to be applied to reducing the pain of carpel tunnel syndrome, as of 2015.
This method of pain management is accomplished by shining a high-powered laser beam on sore joints, explains the Daily Express. The lasers stimulate the same parts of the body as traditional acupuncture without requiring the use of needles. Studies show that the use of beams makes the body produce endorphins, which are the body's natural painkillers that are released during times of pain and stress. The beams are powerful enough to release the endorphins but not cause damage to the skin like a needle would.
