Pain around the heel of the foot has several causes including plantar fasciitis, heel spurs and stone bruises, notes WebMD, The most common cause of this pain is plantar fasciitis, which occurs when a band of tough tissue that connects the heel bone to the toes becomes irritated. Treatment of this condition includes rest, foot muscle stretches, pain relievers and wearing shoes with good arch support.
If pain occurs around the ball of the foot, several causes for it include metatarsalgia, Morton's neuroma and sesamoiditis, according to WebMD. All conditions are treated with rest, pain relievers and wearing comfortable shoes. For Morton's neuroma, steroid injections are also used and, rarely, surgery.
Pain around the arch can be caused by plantar fasciitis and flat feet, notes WebMD. Treatment of plantar fasciitis is the same as noted before, but for severe cases, a steroid injection is needed. Flat feet occur when the arches of the feet flatten and cause foot pain.
