Common reasons married people give for cheating include not enough sexual satisfaction, the desire for different sex partners and being tired of routine. Men state that cheating helps them to feel manly, and woman say that they need to be validated emotionally.
Married men say that they are happy with the sex part of cheating and do not require any emotional connection, while married women report that they must have some type of relationship that includes an emotional attachment in addition to sexual intimacy. One study on extramarital affairs reports that married people engage in one to four affairs during the marriage and that the majority of these affairs last a year or longer. Statistics show that from 10 percent to 20 percent of married people engage in infidelity.
