Everyday Health explains that coconut oil penetrates the hair shaft. For overnight conditioning, brush coconut oil through the hair at bedtime, and cover it with a shower cap. Rinse, shampoo, and condition the hair in the morning.
To control frizz and flyaways, smooth a small amount through the hair using the fingers. To protect hair from the sun, chlorine and salt water, apply coconut oil to the hair, and leave it in the hair while it is exposed to these conditions.
