Kiwi contains flavonoids, which decrease inflammation and cleanse the blood, asserts Novak. Kiwi are also loaded with fiber, which reduces cholesterol. Shrimp contains an amino acid called taurine, which protects the arteries from taking on fat deposits. Avocados can reduce cholesterol by as much as 17 points thanks to beta-sitosterol. Olive oil has a polyphenol, hydroxytyrosol, that protects the cells lining the blood vessels from overly reactive oxygen molecule damage.
Asparagus is one of the best artery-cleansing foods as it helps to release the pressure in the arteries, allowing the body to accommodate for accumulated inflammation, according to Novak. Sardines also help the arteries become cleaner as they contain niacin and omega-3 fatty acids. Adding watermelon to the diet helps the body clear arteries as watermelon contains an amino acid called L-citrulline. This amino acid lowers cholesterol and widens arteries through the release of nitric oxide. Rolled oats also lower cholesterol thanks to a substance known as beta-glucan.
