The SilverSneakers Fitness program offers Classic, Circuit, CardioFit, Yoga and Splash classes. SilverSneakers Flex classes allow participants to exercise at a location of their choice.
SilverSneakers Classic is designed to increase muscle strength and range of motion to assist in activities for daily living. Members work out to music using handheld weights, elastic tubing and a SilverSneakers ball.
Circuit is geared toward increasing cardiovascular and muscular endurance. It involves a standing exercise workout focused on strengthening the upper-body. Handheld weights, elastic tubing and a SilverSneakers ball is alternated with low-impact aerobics. A chair is used for support while standing, as well as for stretching and relaxation exercises.
CardioFit focuses on low-impact movement and upper-body strengthening. Abdominal conditioning, stretching and relaxation exercises are also taught during this session. SilverSneakers Yoga puts members through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses, with chair support offered. This class is designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Breathing exercises and relaxation techniques to promote stress reduction and mental sharpness are also offered.
Splash offers shallow-water movement with an emphasis on improved agility and flexibility. The class also handles cardiovascular, strength and endurance conditioning. No swimming ability is required, and aquatic equipment is used to improve strength, balance and coordination. Offered twice weekly, the classes range from 45 to 60 minutes, and they are taught by fitness instructors trained in teaching classes for older adults.
