An indigo naturalis ointment from traditional Chinese medicine was found to be an effective treatment for plaque-type psoriasis in a study published in the November 2008 issue of Archives of Dermatology, reports Medical News Today. Significant improvement was seen in 74 percent of the study's 34 participants.
The ointment in this study used the dark-blue, plant-based powder indigo naturalis, states Medical News Today.
