Bench press, push-ups and dumbbell flies are excellent chest exercises for men. All three of these lifts can also be performed on an incline or decline, which targets the upper and lower chest specifically.
The muscle group of the chest is the pectoralis major, which is divided between the sternocostal head (upper) and abdominal head (lower). Bench press, push-ups and flies exercise the entire pectoralis major muscle group. Performing these lifts on an incline will target the sternocostal head of the pectoralis major specifically, and the abdominal head is targeted by performing these lifts at a decline. For a larger-looking chest, it is important to also evenly exercise the deltoid muscle group (shoulders), biceps and triceps of the arms, and the trapezius and lattisimus dorsi muscles of the back.
