Gas and bloating are usually caused by swallowed air and gas that is produced in the stomach when food is being broken down. This is a normal condition and can occur to anyone.
Even though bloating can be quite embarrassing, it is not a symptom of any serious condition. Gas that is not removed through belching accumulate in the stomach leading to bloating. Eating some types of foods and drinks cause regular occurrence of bloating. Examples include carbonated drinks and carbohydrates. Some habits, such as eating quickly, smoking, eating fatty foods and drinking through a straw, also increases bloating. Bloating can be reduced by quitting smoking, eating slowly and avoiding carbonated drinks.
