Carbohydrates are an important source of energy for the body. The body takes in carbohydrates through food and then converts them into glucose, which is used by the cells in the body for energy.
The energy produced by carbohydrates can either be used immediately or stored in the liver and muscles for later use. Carbohydrates can be found in a wide variety of food including fruits, bread, vegetables and milk products.
Carbohydrates come in two forms: simple and complex. Simple carbohydrates are made from one type of sugar or a combination of two different sugars and are usually found in fruits, vegetables and candies. Complex carbohydrates are made from a combination of three or more sugars and are usually found in starchy foods such as beans and potatoes.
