Contact lenses should be avoided while suffering from a stye in the eye. This is due to the fact that a stye is painful and the contact lens can irritate it even further. People with contacts are advised to switch to glasses until the stye goes away.
After the stye has healed, contact lenses should be cleaned completely to ensure there is no bacteria or germs residing on them. A stye, while caused by a backed up oil gland, can cause irritation in the eye and under the eyelid which, in turn, can make the person more susceptible to infection.
