Websites such as the American Diabetes Association and Diabetic Living provide lists of foods that Type 2 diabetics should emphasize in their diets. After each food on the list, the websites provide a basic explanation why that food helps diabetics. Food lists can also be obtained from one's physician's office, or other medical center which offers diabetic counseling.
Whole grains, in particular, are often found on lists of superfoods for diabetics. The American Diabetes Association praises whole grain flours and baked products for their inclusion of bran and germ, which are not found in similar products made from enriched wheat flour. Also important are nutrients such as folate, chromium, magnesium and omega-3 fatty acids.
