Full Answer

The American Pregnancy Association deems Tums a safe antacid to take while pregnant but recommends taking Tums and iron supplements at least one to two hours apart to permit the body to fully utilized each. Tums also provides the added benefit of introducing calcium into the body, which requires between 1,000mg and 1,300mg each day. To manage heartburn symptoms, the American Pregnancy Association recommends eating several smaller meals throughout the day, avoiding eating two to three hours before going to sleep for the night, and avoiding eating foods that cause heartburn.
