Foods that contain large amounts of lecithin, such as eggs, soybeans, oatmeal and cabbage, prevent cholesterol solids from forming in the gallbladder. Eat plenty of these foods, or speak to a doctor about taking lecithin in supplement form as a gallstone preventative.
Avoid crash diets as rapid weight loss can increase the risk of developing gallstones, says Mayo Clinic. It is also important to eat regular, balanced meals throughout the day because fasting may contribute to the formation of gallstones.
