Exercise can strengthen the lower abs, but fat must be lost to see the muscles. Fat loss can be accomplished through diet and exercise. Healthy foods include lean meat, whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Small, healthy meals eaten five or six times per day can boost the metabolism.
Cardiovascular exercise is any activity that elevates the heart rate for at least 20 minutes. Examples of cardiovascular exercises include jogging, swimming, bicycling and playing sports such as basketball or tennis.
Hanging leg raises are performed by hanging from a high bar with an overhand grip and then raising the legs until the knees are above the waist. Land mines are performed by putting weight on one side of a barbell, placing the other side on the ground in a corner and moving the weighted end from side to side. Weighted crunches are performed by lying on the ground with the knees bent, holding a weight above the face with both arms straight out and bringing the shoulders off the ground while flexing the abs. Each of these exercises should be repeated 10 to 15 times.Learn more about Fitness & Exercise
