U.S. News & World Report has touted the Atkins Diet as one of the Best Diets for Weight Loss. The diet begins with three phases. The dieter first eliminates particular foods, and then gradually reintegrates them into a healthy diet.
The Atkins website describes each phase in detail. In Phase 1, the diet consists of eating “foundation veggies,” with healthy fats and some cheeses. Then nuts or seeds are integrated. Phase 1 is referred to as a “Kick-Start.” Phase 2 is known as the “Balancing” phase. Berries and the like, plus whole milk, legumes and tomato juice are part of the regimen in Phase 2.
