Heart rate workout charts are available online at Heart.org and Hanford.gov. People use heart rate workout charts to estimate and analyze the workload of the heart.
Workout charts are divided into four sections: a warmup and cool-down zone, a fat-burning zone, a target heart rate zone and an anaerobic zone. The charts are further divided by age: Younger peoples' hearts can take greater loads than older peoples' heart.
HPMC's website explains how to calculate individual heart rates for each zone based on age. The American Heart Association advises people to stay within the target heart rate zone, which is 50 to 85 percent of a person's maximum heart rate.
