Good exercising heart rate charts are available at websites of the American Heart Association and HPM Corporation. The AHA explains how to determine if you are reaching an appropriate heart rate while exercising. HPMC shows how to find maximum heart rate and modify it for varying degrees of exercise intensity.
The AHA chart lists target heart rate and maximum heart rate by age. Using the instructions for finding an exercising heart rate, users can check to see if they fit within the target heart rate zone for their age, which is between 50 and 85 percent of a person's maximum heart rate.
The HPMC chart displays six intensity levels by age, ranging from 50 to 95 percent of the maximum heart rate. Each column chart contains a reminder of how to calculate the proper heart rate for that level.
