Other ways diabetic patients can enjoy peanut butter as part of their diet include having 1 medium banana and 1 tablespoon peanut butter, or 1/2 peanut butter sandwich, using 1 slice of whole wheat bread and 1 tablespoon of peanut butter, explains the American Diabetes Association. These food combinations have approximately 30 grams of carbohydrate.
Study results reported in 2012 show that eating 1.5 ounces of peanut butter at breakfast helps to lower blood sugar spikes in the early part of the day, and the effects continue hours later, according to the Peanut Institute.
