Dental coverage is available through the Healthcare Marketplace. Users have two options: a health plan that includes dental coverage and requires one monthly premium for everything, or a separate, standalone plan that offers just dental coverage and requires a separate monthly premium.
Two types of dental plans are available in the Marketplace: high plans and low plans. High coverage dental plans offer lower copayments and deductibles in exchange for higher monthly premiums, while low coverage plans have lower monthly premiums with higher copays and deductibles.
Unlike regular health insurance, dental coverage is not a requirement for adults under the health care law, and insurers aren't required to offer adult dental coverage. However, plans for children under the age of 18 must include dental coverage as an essential health benefit.
