Can You Carry a Baby With Your Tubes Tied?

A woman can become pregnant after a tubal ligation though the odds are less than 1 percent as of 2014, according to CNN. The purpose of tying a woman's fallopian tubes is to block the connection between an egg and sperm in the fallopian tube.

When women become pregnant after tubal ligation, there are high risks of ectopic pregnancies, reports CNN. An ectopic pregnancy means the egg does not grow inside the uterus, developing within the fallopian tube instead. This type of pregnancy is very dangerous for the woman, and contacting a doctor right away is important.

Women who want to become pregnant after having their tubes tied have two options. Some women opt to reverse their surgeries, while others use in vitro fertilization to become pregnant, according to the Advanced Fertility Center of Chicago.
