As of 2015, betel leaves, also called paan, are available at EricksonFarm.com and Logees.com. Florida-based Erickson Farm picks the leaves, ships them the same day, and requires a 1-pound minimum order. Connecticut-based Logee's Greenhouses ships live 2.5-inch potted plants to its customers and offers the plants at its retail store.
During winter months, a 1-pound order is about 160 betel leaves, and in the summer, about 120 leaves make a 1-pound order, according to Erickson Farm. People chew betel leaves to freshen their breath and cleanse their palates. In South and Southeast Asia, people use the leaves during cultural events and in religious ceremonies.
Logee's Greenhouses and Erickson Farm are family-owned and family-operated businesses, note the companies.
