The burpee exercise is when a person squats with his hands on the floor in front, then thrusts his legs behind into the push-up position. He then returns to the squat position and jumps up as high as he can.
This exercise is done as fast as the person can do it, aiming for 12 to 15 repetitions per 30 seconds. To add a degree of difficulty, a pushup is added after thrusting to the position.
For added strength training while doing burpees, an exerciser can hold dumbells in each hand or wear a weighted vest. When doing the vertical jump, a medicine ball can be raised over the head while performing the jump.
