Research shows that using white bread as a main part of the diet can lead to being overweight, according to WebMD. Participants in the study who ate two or more servings of white bread a day were 40 percent more likely to gain weight.
WebMD also states that people who ate a mix of white and whole grain bread didn't experience the same increased risks of weight gain. The same is true of those who ate only whole grain bread. Researchers think the reason for the difference has to do with the type of carbohydrates in whole grain bread as well as the fiber content and other ingredients used to make it.
