High levels of creatinine in urine may indicate impairment of functions of the kidneys. The purpose of this test, therefore, is determination of proper functioning of the kidneys.
There is not much preparation needed before performing the creatinine blood test, reports Healthline. The procedure only involves standard drawing of blood. However, some medications may increase the level of creatinine in the blood. For this reason, the doctor needs information regarding any medication the patient is taking before undertaking the creatinine test.
Standard collection of blood is done via the veins on the inside of the elbow, using a normal needle and syringe, explains Healthline. Results of the test are known within a few days. Measurement of creatinine is in milligram per deciliter of blood.
