As of June 2015, there is insufficient evidence to suggest that bitter melon helps with the management of diabetes, reports WebMD. The fruit and seeds from bitter gourd, more commonly known as bitter melon, are present in medicine to treat a wide variety of medical conditions, including diabetes.
The results from studies conducted on bitter melon and diabetes are conflicting and inconclusive. Some suggest that the fruit, juice or extract from bitter melon improve glucose tolerance and lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes, but these studies contain flaws, states WebMD. Other studies do not support bitter melon's efficacy.
