What Are the Benefits of Himalayan Pink Salt?

Himalayan pink salt is a rich source of several minerals that are important to the human diet including sodium chloride, sulfate, calcium, potassium and magnesium. It is believed to lower blood pressure, improve circulation, increase libido, detoxify the body of heavy metals, promote healthy sleep patterns, reduce the signs of aging, aid in vascular health, prevent muscle cramps, strengthen bones and increase hydration, according to Alanna Ketler for Collective Evolution.

Ketler states that the minerals present in Himalayan pink salt are more easily absorbed by the body because they are in colloidal form. Like all salts, it can cause high blood pressure if overused. The pink color of the salt is due to iron oxide present in its composition.

The salt is mined in the Khewra Salt Mines in Khewra, Jhelum District, Punjab, Pakistan. People use it in cooking and bath products. Some cultures serve food on blocks of Himalayan pink salt, according to Wikipedia. Blocks of the salt can also be heated and used as cooking surfaces for fish and some meats. Large portions of crystal rock salt are popularly used as lamps. They are lit from within with a bulb or candle. Some people believe that Himalayan salt lamps provide healing properties by emitting positive energy waves into the air. Wikipedia notes that there is no scientific evidence to prove this claim.
